Mailbox Quilts

Maria Tamaoka of Pinwheels and I have joined forces for this exciting new venture. Mailbox Quilts is a new & unique approach to quilt design. Take two independent designers - each with her own particular style, each with her own exclusive fabric line, each designing her own choice of quilt blocks - and combine all that into one cohesive little quilt. Sound like a challenge? Well, it is! And it’s one that we’ve embraced and are bringing to you in a 5 week format with you making the choice.   Visit for more details.

Finished Size: 28” x 36”

Mailbox Quilts Flower GardenWelcome to MailBox Quilts! The Mailbox Flower Garden is the 5th quilt in this series of projects designed by Maria Tamaoka of Pinwheels and myself. For my Flower Garden I’ve used my hand dyed, sueded cottons in 3 shades of Cheddar for my flowers with accents of Red. Some of the traditional flower blocks are pieced, some are appliqued. The stems and leaves are raw edge applique. I love the sharp contrast of these strong colors against a bright & clean Ivory background. My flower garden is a wonderful combination of sharp, contemporary geometrics and traditional quilt block designs. The varied Green stems add a touch of whimsy and bring the whole garden alive. And, as with all the Mailbox Quilts, each of the 8 blocks can be used individually for a quick little banner or pillow! So bring that flower garden into your home – one flower at a time or go for the whole garden!

Just as before with the previous Mailbox Baskets quilts, this will be a 5 week program beginning Monday, March 14th, and will be available through May 13th. Kits will be sent to your own mailbox on (or close to!) Mondays. The first week you will receive the fabric, patterns, and instructions to make your first 2 blocks. Each week for the next 3 weeks you will continue to receive 2 block patterns, fabric, and instructions. The fifth week you will receive the border and binding fabrics along with the complete instructions on how to assemble your quilt. And as a BONUS we will include a special gift--you're going to love it. The cost for weeks 1-4 will be $18.00 plus $3.00 shipping per week – you will be charged weekly. The fifth week is on me! Sign up below and bring a flower garden into your home!

Click the 'JOIN' button below to add program to shopping cart and checkout. (By purchasing this option you are agreeing to let us charge your credit card each week for the weekly fees. You can stop your membership at any time, just contact us. Your card will be charged $21.00 = $18.00 + $3.00 S/H when your mailbox kit is ready to ship each week.)

Mailbox Wreaths
Finished Size: 28” x 38”

Who loves to decorate their house and doors with festive, holiday wreaths? We all do! This newest quilt in the Mailbox Quilts series is a collection of 8 different wreath designs. This is a great assortment of wreaths combining “chunky”, folk art versions of traditional Baltimore Album blocks with more modern pieced designs. The entire quilt is made with my hand dyed, sueded cottons in softer, more contemporary shades of the traditional reds and greens. And, after you complete your quilt, use the individual wreath designs for some great gift-giving projects! In other words – it’s a great little quilt!

Mailbox PumpkinsMailbox Pumpkins
Finished Size: 29” x 36”

The Mailbox Pumpkins quilt is ready! What’s one of the first things you think about when we talk about the fall season? Pumpkins! (OK - Stay with me here - I said ONE of the first things!) Pumpkins on the vine ready for fall harvest. Pumpkins on the porch carved into Jack-O-Lanterns. Pumpkins on quilts Pumpkin Pie! For my Mailbox Pumpkins I’ve once again used my hand dyed sueded cottons exclusively. I chose a soft grey background and made my pumpkins from assorted fall colors. And flying in and around the pumpkin patch are strips of Flying Geese. For these I’ve used my hand dyed gradations, repeating the greens, cheddars, and oranges used for the pumpkins. It’s a happy little pumpkin patch to celebrate this wonderful time of year!

Mailbox BasketsMailbox Baskets
Finished Size 27" x 39"

This is my version of the Mailbox Baskets quilt.  As you can see I’ve used my hand dyed, sueded cottons exclusively.  My plan was to make a two color quilt.  But you know I always have to throw in a few little “extras”.  In addition to my basic blue & ivory color scheme I’ve chosen to use bits of my Meadow and Cheddar fabrics as small accents here and there.  I’ve made my blocks with machine piecing and raw-edge applique.  And in order to add a bit of “whimsy” to an otherwise bold, contemporary look I’ve added some embroidery, buttons, and ric-rac - just for fun!

Mailbox BirdhousesMailbox Birdhouses

Finished Size: 28” x 40”

The Mailbox Birdhouses quilt is ready to welcome the spring’s new tenants. I’ve chosen to use my hand dyed, sueded cottons exclusively for this quilt. And I’ve made my birdhouses with lots of bright colors on a fresh Ivory background. I’ve used fusible applique, some embroidery, some 3-dimensional flowers, Kurumi and hand dyed buttons, tiny ric-rac, and machine quilting to bring it all together. This is a fun & happy way to bring the spring indoors.
